"Sustainability and recycling have always been rooted in our DNA"

Karen Queitsch

As experts for disposable products and smart household helpers, the SUND Group develops future-oriented, sustainable products. Therefore we adopt a large number of measures to minimise the emission of CO2 in the manufacturing process. We focus on sustainable resources, and we research intensively to provide a holistic contribution to environmentally-friendly disposable products. The following overview shows the comprehensive nature of our commitment.

Vision 2030

Vision 2030 – our path to sustainability. At all levels, it remains our goal to make a positive and lasting contribution – for humankind, the environment and the society in which we live. Sustainability has been firmly anchored in our corporate philosophy for decades. On foundation of our company back in 1960, we already began recycling jute bags for further use. New ideas are turned into action and form the basis for fresh new ideas. With Vision 2030 we have set ourselves ambitious targets. We place the highest value on sustainable solutions such as a circular economy, CO2 reduction and recycling. Along the way, we regularly assess our performance. Join us on our path into a sustainable future.

Utilising valuable resources

Plastic is valuable and is never waste. Therefore, for several years, we have been pursuing the increased use of recycled materials in the manufacture of our single-use products. We can be proud of the results of our dedicated efforts: we treat and re-use even difficult-to-process consumer waste. As such, we make an active contribution to increasing the recycling rate. The popular garbage bags produced by our company already consist of more than 90 percent recycled materials. This constitutes a major indication that even recycled materials can meet the most demanding of industrial requirements.

Cutting CO2 through innovation

In order to effectively lower CO2 emissions, we pursue a holistic approach: both on the product side and with regard to operating processes, throughout our entire sales process and through collaboration with sustainability initiatives, we are continually increasing our efforts. We consider the reduction of materials to be the main factor that contributes to the prevention of CO2 emissions. We are therefore conducting research into innovative materials made from super-polymers, in order that we might use less plastic in our production, while maintaining consistent quality. We are also part of climate protection foundations, such as the Alliance for Climate and Development. With the same level of engagement, we are endeavouring to expand our logistics in an environmentally-conscious manner. For us, sustainability does not fall by the wayside, even on the home stretch.

Closing loops

Sustainability requires loops – this conviction has been driving us for years. With the support of the Cradle-to-Cradle Institute, our products have been tested with regard to their recyclability. As a member of the Circular Plastics Alliance we have also undertaken to use 32,000 tonnes of recycled material for our products each year. As a result, our plastic single-use products should have a reduced environmental impact and should be brought into a circular loop, in order that the proportion of new plastics used might fall even further in future. The combination of ultra-modern innovations and environmentally-friendly product solutions is what makes us so special.

Comprehensive engagement

The SUND Group is engaged with social issues, with a view to making a contribution to sustainability on behalf of society. For instance, as its main sponsor, DEISS supports the "Hamburg räumt auf" (Hamburg cleans up) waste pick-up campaign. We promote international environmental projects and collaborate with suppliers who work sustainably to realise our aspirations for a greener future. Internally, we offer training opportunities such as the SUND Idea Days and give our employees the opportunity to use one working day to engage in social projects.
